Attic Systems Installer
ATTIC SYSTEMS INSTALLER
Bigfoot RetroFoam
Location: Charleston, WV — serving Charleston, Huntington, Ashland and the surrounding Tri-State area
Position: Full-Time
Department: Production / Installation
JOIN THE BIGFOOT CREW
Bigfoot RetroFoam is looking for a hardworking, dependable Attic Systems Installer to join our growing production team.
This isn't a job where you'll stand around watching someone else work. You'll be part of a crew transforming uncomfortable, inefficient attics into properly air-sealed and insulated spaces that make customers' homes more comfortable and energy efficient.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in physical work, pays attention to details, works well with a team, and wants to learn a skilled trade.
Experience in insulation or construction is helpful, but the right attitude, reliability, and willingness to learn are even more important.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As an Attic Systems Installer, you'll work inside customers' homes and attics completing energy-efficiency and insulation projects.
Your work may include:
- Preparing homes and work areas before installation begins
- Protecting customers' floors, walls, furniture, and belongings
- Entering and working in residential attic spaces
- Removing or moving existing insulation when required
- Locating attic penetrations and sources of air leakage
- Air sealing plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and other penetrations
- Sealing around attic access points, hatches, and pull-down stairs
- Installing covers and air-sealing details around appropriate recessed fixtures
- Sealing larger attic openings and chases
- Installing blown-in cellulose insulation to specified depths and R-values
- Installing rigid foam insulation and other attic insulation products
- Sealing duct joints, seams, gaps, and connections
- Assisting with duct insulation and encapsulation systems
- Installing ventilation and attic-efficiency components when included in the project
- Operating insulation blowers, hoses, vacuums, foam equipment, hand tools, and power tools
- Measuring materials and following the project's installation specifications
- Taking before, during, and after photos of completed work
- Maintaining a clean and organized jobsite
- Cleaning the customer's home and property before leaving
- Loading and unloading trucks, equipment, and materials
- Maintaining company tools, vehicles, and equipment
- Following Bigfoot RetroFoam and Attic Systems installation procedures
- Following all company and jobsite safety requirements
WHAT THE JOB IS REALLY LIKE
We want applicants to understand what they're signing up for.
Attic installation is physical work.
You'll crawl, kneel, bend, climb, carry materials, pull insulation hose, use tools, and work in confined attic spaces.
Attics can be hot in the summer, cold in the winter, dusty, dirty, and tight.
Some days will be easier than others.
But at the end of the day, you'll be able to look at the work you completed and know that you physically improved someone's home.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for people who:
- Show up on time and ready to work
- Are dependable and accountable
- Have a strong work ethic
- Can follow instructions and installation specifications
- Pay attention to details
- Work well as part of a crew
- Respect customers and their property
- Can work safely without constant supervision
- Are comfortable working in attics and confined spaces
- Are willing to work in hot and cold environments
- Are willing to learn new installation techniques
- Take pride in doing a job correctly — not just quickly
- Help teammates instead of saying, "That's not my job"
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must be able to perform the essential physical functions of residential attic installation, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.
The position regularly requires:
- Climbing ladders
- Crawling and maneuvering through attic spaces
- Kneeling, crouching, bending, and reaching
- Working overhead
- Walking across attic framing and designated work surfaces
- Carrying tools and installation materials
- Pulling and maneuvering insulation hose
- Working in confined spaces
- Working in environments with significant temperature variations
- Wearing required personal protective equipment
EXPERIENCE
Construction, insulation, HVAC, roofing, crawl-space, weatherization, remodeling, or other skilled-trade experience is a plus.
Previous insulation experience is NOT required for the right candidate.
We can teach installation techniques.
We can't teach someone to care about showing up, working hard, treating customers well, and taking pride in their work.
A GREAT FIT MIGHT HAVE EXPERIENCE AS A:
Insulation Installer • Construction Laborer • HVAC Helper • Weatherization Technician • Carpenter Helper • Roofing Installer • Crawl Space Installer • General Laborer • Home Improvement Installer
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
A successful Bigfoot installer:
Does the job right.
Installation details matter. Small areas left unsealed can affect the performance of the entire attic system.
Protects the customer's home.
We're guests in someone's house. Their property should be treated accordingly.
Works efficiently.
We want quality work without wasted time or materials.
Works safely.
No production goal is more important than getting everyone home safely.
Takes ownership.
If you see something that needs done, handle it or bring it to the crew leader's attention.
Leaves it better than we found it.
When we leave, the attic should perform better and the customer's home should be clean.
